Possible match-fixing in qualification for the French Open
Many people supposedly gambled on the Bernabe Zapata Miralles vs. Dudi Sela match. The match was won by Miralles on Monday, 6-3.
The Spanish Miralles and the Israeli Sela match from the second set is where the accusations centre. The second set was finished in a mere sixteen minutes, and Sela is now being scrutinised for what may have contributed to the defeat. The whole match was over in less than a minute.
Despite reports of a high volume of online wagers placed by three operators based in Ukraine, Cyprus, and Armenia, no formal inquiry has been launched.
The men's tennis world rankings currently place Mirallas at 133rd and Sela at 456th. He is 37 years old and has departed from Paris ever since. Meanwhile, the former advanced to Thursday's first round of the French Open after defeating Italian Luca Nardi.
In the first three months of 2022, 42 instances of questionable betting were reported to the proper authorities by the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), with the greatest number of incidents involving tennis. During that time, the sport had fourteen participants, with football and table tennis following with ten apiece.
In addition to the reports from Roland Garros, there have been ten arrests in Ireland on Wednesday morning related to alleged match-fixing in relation to football matches in the League of Ireland. This is all part of an ongoing investigation into match-fixing in sports.
