End to gambling sponsorship demanded by Brentford supporters group
"Do you think Brentford FC should continue with commercial partnerships with gambling firms?" was the question posed in a Twitter poll with 783 respondents. The league is planning to voluntarily abolish front-of-shirt gambling sponsorship.
Approximately two-thirds of those who took the survey felt strongly that the club shouldn't maintain these relationships, while a small percentage(7%) were unsure.
Currently, Brentford, a Premier League club, wear their shirt with the emblem of the gambling corporation Hollywood Bets as their sponsor. By 2024, the contract should be finalised.
The UK government is now reviewing the Gambling Act 2005, and one of the key issues being addressed is gambling sponsorship in sports. Rumour has it that all twenty clubs in the Premier League will get together today to vote on the matter.
"Having a gambling addiction can harm your health and relationships," BIAS said, noting that Brentford should vote in favour of discontinuing gambling items. You can end up deeply in debt as a result as well.
"Brentford Football Club has decided to terminate its consumer gambling partnerships in accordance with its community-based values."
Fulham, another Premier League club, has apparently disregarded similar sentiments from some of its supporters in light of the club's recent record sponsorship deal with betting company W88, which will serve as both the front of the shirt and main team partner for the forthcoming season.
